There's something very special about an actual physical model that brings joy to people. Seeing a highly detailed model creates wonder and gives you a whole new perspective on a place you think you already know.
I create models of famous places using only pictures and video of the places themselves as sources. My models of TV show sets are made by viewing and studying the TV shows themselves carefully to catch all the details. I do not use blueprints of the real places, as often they don't exist or are not available. All my designs start their life as a flat blueprint on Illustrator. I build the initial space and then get into the details in each scene. I pay homage to the real scenes by hiding Easter Eggs of props or items that may be of significance to that location. Then I print all the designs on artist paper and begin assembling the models using various model building techniques. One of my favorite things is playing with lighting. Most of the shadows you see are actually drawn on the walls and floors to give the models dimension and set the mood. This was especially relevant to the 0001 Cemetery Lane model, which was a fun challenge to tackle. |
I offer many of my models as DIY kits that you can print at home and assemble following the instructions, in the same spirit as the old fashioned castle and ship building books of my childhood. Feeling crafty?
